Perfusionist
Duties and
Responsibilities:
A perfusionist
operates a heart-lung machine, which is an artificial blood pump, which propels
oxygenated blood to the patient’s tissues while the surgeon operates on the
heart. The perfusionist manages the physiological and metabolic demands of the
patient while the cardiac surgeon operates on the heart.
Average Salary: $50,000
Education Requirements:
Perfusionists have
the opportunity to pursue continuing education options in order to meet
certification requirements that keep their skills and knowledge up to date. In
order to become a Certified Clinical Perfusionist , candidates must pass a two part
exam administered by the American Board of Cardiovascular Perfusion. The
first part is called the Perfusion Basic Science Exam, while the second part is
called the Clinical Applications in Perfusion Exam.
Reflection: I wouldn’t like to work in this
because I’m not quite interested in this job.

and Responsibilities:
Answers
telephone and either responds to inquiry, directs caller to appropriate personnel,
or initiates a triage slip or response by medical personnel. Schedules
appointments and enters appointment date and time into computerized scheduler
with a high rate of accuracy. Provides exemplary customer service; treats
patients and coworkers with courtesy and discretion. Greets and directs
patients, salespeople, and visitors. Registers patients by verifying that
patient's record is up to date and accurate. Makes appropriate changes in computer
system and on patient's chart. Enters confidential personal health information.
Education Requirements:
Patient
service representatives should have a high school diploma, but depending on the
type of position, additional training may be necessary. Many technical and
community colleges offer certificate or associate's degree programs in medical
assisting, which provide a more advanced academic background and experience for
an aspiring patient service representative.These programs typically take 1-2
years to complete.

Osteopathic physicians (Doctors of Osteopathic

medications, and perform surgery in all 50 states and the District of Columbia.

I would not
like to work in this because it’s boring to me and I would like to study

most important members of the eye care team because of their direct interaction
with customers. Customer loyalty is often won or lost based on how well the
frame selection and eye wear fitting process goes. All optical employers should consider including a
requirement for sociable personality traits in the optician job description.

Education:
While there are no specific educational requirements for an optician, a
2-year associate degree or 4-year bachelor degree in opticianry may offer a
competitive advantage. Opticianry
courses educate students in the anatomy and physiology of the human eye, optical

Ophthalmologists are

role combines the technical skills of a micro surgeon with the therapeutic and
diagnostic skills of a doctor.

need extensive training after high school: four years of college, four years of

ophthalmic assistant is a person who works with an ophthalmologist (eye doctor)
to provide patient care by performing many different eye-related clinical
functions. Ophthalmic assistants help ophthalmologists care for patients by
taking histories, performing various procedures and tests, and preparing
patients to see the doctor. Their work provides the ophthalmologist with
important information to help diagnose and treat patients.

Education:
Students enrolled in a
2-year ophthalmology technician associate's degree program receive in-depth
instruction on taking patient histories, taking eye measurements, explaining
medical procedures to patients, performing eye evaluations and running diagnostic

Education:
Technically a high school
diploma or GED satisfies the qualifications for a candidate to enter the
necessary training programs and become an ORT. However, earning an associate’s
or bachelor’s degree usually makes an operating room technician more desirable
to employers, not to mention better positioned for opportunities that come
along over the years. Whether the prospective technicians major in a science or
not, all types of laboratory courses are appropriate.
