Home Health Aide

Duties and responsibilities:

The Home Health Aide job description is much more than providing basic medical assistance patients, or as they are sometimes referred, clients.  The fact that the job is performed in someone’s home makes it unique in the health care industry. 

Tasks

• Administer prescribed oral medications under written direction of physician or as directed by home care nurse and aide.
• Change dressings.
• Check patients' pulse, temperature and respiration.
• Direct patients in simple prescribed exercises and in the use of braces or artificial limbs.
• Maintain records of patient care, condition, progress, and problems in order to report and discuss observations with a supervisor or case manager.
• Massage patients and apply preparations and treatments, such as liniment, alcohol rubs, and heat-lamp stimulation.

Average Salary: $35,000

Education:

 Home health aides must receive formal training and pass a competency test to work for certified home health or hospice agencies that receive reimbursement from Medicare or Medicaid. Personal and home care aides, however, face a wide range of requirements, which vary from state to state.

Duties and Responsibilities:

Managing a health care facility today is the close equivalent to managing an entire city. It’s a dynamic environment of specialized groups that have both direct and indirect relationships with one another, and at times, competing interests. To lead such an organization requires careful budgeting, tough decision-making, and above all else, the ability to maintain the respect and cooperation of diverse interest groups that are sometimes adversely affected by an administrator’s decisions. Within this environment, a health care administrator is responsible for establishing health care standards, making strategic policy decisions and implementing the personnel management procedures necessary to support his vision. In addition to the internal leadership they provide, health care administrators are leaders within the greater community as well.

Education:
A bachelor’s degree (four years) is the typical entry-level preparation needed for health care administration jobs. Some employers, however, will promote from within or hire other professionals with related experience (such as nurses) who are ideal for an administrative role because of their direct health care knowledge. For high level executive positions, a graduate education (two to three years) is usually the starting point. This means attaining a MBA, or a different type of master’s degree, or a doctorate in health administration. Histology Specialists

Duties and Responsibility:

Under the supervision of laboratory technologists or physicians, histology technicians freeze and cut thin tissue samples to analyze under a microscope. They secure the slice sample on a slide and use specialized dyes to stain it, bringing out cellular structures and allowing pathologists, physicians or research scientists to identify abnormal cells and monitor cell function. Histology technicians must also be familiar with many types of lab equipment and monitor it for signs of disrepair.

Average salary: $22,000 - $35,000 

Education:

To become a histologist, students must either earn a bachelor's degree that includes a one year clinical internship or complete a long-term training program in a histopathology lab.  They must also pass a national examination. Specialists

Reflection:

 I would not like to be a Histology specialists because that’s not my kind of thing I would like to be but I would love to learn about it .
